Наверно Владимир Снопов не наведывался к нам на сайт.Откуда у него информация,что Рой присутствовал на завтраке лично,когда идею группы подал Харрисон?С названием тоже непонятки- насколько я знаю,название смело можно приписывать Джоржу и Джеффу,потому что именно Джефф предложил заменить trembling на traveling ,а отнюдь не Дилан.И ещё, по тексту статьи создается впечатление,что Джим Келтнер присоединился к группе только на V.3.

Всё верно: статья старательная и вроде правильная, не без интересных кусочков, но допущенные ляпы ставят под сомнение правдивость тех самых интересных кусочков.
Насчёт Роя тоже удивился: впервые слышу, чтобы он там с ДЛ и ДХ обедал во время принятия решения о создании группы.
Следующая фраза про Петти: "Том не был для этой компании посторонним: вместе с Линном принимал участие в записи альбома Дел Шеннона Rock On!"
Rock On вообще-то вышел месяцем-двумя позднее второго альбома Вилбурис. Странный аргумент.
Ещё у меня создалось впечатление после статьи, что львиная доля заслуги сочинения текстов и исполнения песен принадлежит Дилану. Остальным всего помаленьку. Владимир Снопов - либо тайный фан Боба, либо не тот, кем хочет казаться, а может, то и другое вместе

Traveling Wilburys, Volume 1 - The Traveling Wilburys (1988)

POSSIBLY one of the best supergroup offerings, the birth of The Traveling Wilburys was a happy accident. In early April 1988, George Harrison needed to record a B-side for a European single, This Is Love. Harrison's collaborator Jeff Lynne, was producing some tracks for Roy Orbison, and Orbison and Lynne agreed over dinner to help.

Needing a studio on short notice, Harrison suggested they call Bob Dylan, who had a home studio. After dinner, George stopped by Tom Petty's house to pick up his guitar and invited him along, too. The following day, they wrote and recorded the song Handle With Care in five hours, with all five sharing the vocals.

The record label considered the song too good to be used as a B-side, so Harrison hatched the idea to form a band and record an album. The group convened over nine days and put together the rest of the album, with everybody collaboratively writing and producing all the tracks.

Although there some discernible lead vocals (Dylan's Tweeter And The Monkey Man, Harrison's Heading For The Light or Petty's Last Night, for example), for most part, everybody contributed equally to vocal duties.

Released in October 1988, Volume One became the surprise hit of the year, selling 2 million copies within six months. The album was a Top 20 hit in the United Kingdom, and peaked at No 3 in America, where it eventually stayed for over 50 weeks on the charts.

Orbison's death in December 1988, meant that no repeat performance was forthcoming. And though the remaining four put out a second album, it couldn't surpass this release. Christopher

Jeff Lynne was born on December 30, 1947. He is a singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and producer. Lynne got his start in the band Idle Race, later joined The Move, and finally found his biggest success in the Electric Light Orchestra. He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys, which featured Bob Dylan.

The Traveling Wilburys couldn't have happened without Jeff Lynne's involvement. He had co-produced George Harrison's 1987 "comeback" album, Cloud Nine. Soon after, Lynne went on to co-produce Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever, and Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl. During this period, Harrison needed a new track for his single "This Is Love," from the Cloud Nine album, to give extra value to his fans. While the story has been told a number of ways, it seems that Lynne, Harrison, Orbison, and Petty were all hanging out, and recording, around this time. Harrison recruited Lynne and Orbison for the new track. Harrison had left a guitar at Petty's house, so he eagerly joined the gang when the ex-Beatle's instrument was retrieved.

Since there was some difficulty finding a place to record, they went to Bob Dylan's home studio in Malibu, California. The five musicians, joined by session drummer Jim Keltner, recorded the song, "Handle With Care." It was deemed too valuable for a b-side, so plans were made to record nine more tracks. The resulting album, Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 1, sold more than five million copies. Unfortunately, Roy Orbison died less than two months after Vol. 1 was released. The remaining four Wilburys reunited in 1990 for the album Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 3.

Jeff Lynne, as Otis Wilbury (Vol. 1) and Clayton Wilbury (Vol. 3), co-produced both albums with George Harrison. Lynne, alone, produced three of the bonus tracks on the 2007 reissue, the Traveling Wilburys Collection. The video of "Inside Out," included on the included DVD disc, featured a slightly different edit.

For the original release of Vol. 1, Harrison went out of his way to create a system for all five Wilburys to share credit equally. On the 2007 reissue, the songs were attributed to different publishers, possibly in reaction to issues with some of Roy Orbison's former publishers.

Sunday Morning Coming Down: Tom Petty, Full Moon Fever

Tom Petty had been with the Heartbreakers for more than 10 years before he made this, his first solo album. Solo, technically, that is, because he did utilize the individual talents of several Heartbreakers on the project and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell co-produced. However with fellow Traveling Wilbury Jeff Lynne at the production helm, and George Harrison and Roy Orbison popping up in support, the overall sound and direction was quite a departure from 1987’s Let Me Up (I’ve Had Enough).

After enjoying himself immensely with the Traveling Wilburys project (a low-key but hugely successful supergroup composed of George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Petty) and on the road backing Dylan, Petty had been experimenting a little with sound and tone. It was, he felt, time to try something different – a solo project – and test himself in the marketplace.

Unlike most records, Full Moon Fever starts well and gets better. “Free Fallin’” is a well-crafted Petty anthem in the making that sets the tone and the mood of the album perfectly. After seeing his house burn down, Petty’s writing had taken on an edge that has been lacking in his past few recordings. There’s no mistaking his clarity and intent to speak form the heart on “Free Fallin’,” however. And after he reels you in with that crackling tune, Petty, tops it with the albums’ finest song, “I Won’t Back Down.” With Harrison chipping in on guitar and backing vocals this is a tough, melody-heavy west coast special that lyrically marked the beginning of Petty’s outspoken conflict with the unscrupulous elements of the record industry.

“Runnin’ Down a Dream,” written with Campbell and Lynne, begins with a brilliant guitar riff and builds and builds and builds from there. It’s a warm and nostalgic nod to Del Shannon, a Petty hero. Talking of heroes, The Byrds would obviously figure on any of Petty’s top 10 lists and his version of their (written by Gene Clark) “I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better” is a classy nod to his musical influences and ’60s roots that ends up sounding as much Searchers as Byrds.

“Yer So Bad” is one of the best of the singles (and the last to be issued), a jaunty number with a subtle nod to The Kinks and The Faces that has beautifully passed the test of time. Not everything on the album works as well as these tracks. For example, “Alright For Now” is an intimate, little folky number that showcases some tasteful guitar work but doesn’t quite deliver as a song, while “Depending on You” seems somewhat aimless, a meandering track that cries out for more structure and direction. “A Face in The Crowd” begins well, but winds up strangely nondescript.

Of course, Petty hadn’t been around since the ’70s without figuring out that every good album needs a good finish. It gets it with “Zombie Zoo” and Petty’s terrific vocal delivery that suggests Tom had picked up a few Dylan nuances while backing the great one on his recent tour. There are also unmistakable backing vocals courtesy of Orbison on one of Petty’s toughest songs.

Overall, Full Moon Fever showed Petty that he was now a bona fide rock star, capable of doing solo projects that easily matched his work with the Heartbreakers. By allowing Lynne to handle much of the production chores the album felt lighter, fuller and more radio friendly ensuring Petty’s place forever on classic and oldies radio but also re-invigorating a career that could have gone off the tracks.
