Родилась в 1980 году Москве. В 1989 году, во время Перестройки, вместе со своей семьей переехала в Нью-Йорк и поселилась в Бронксе. Получила классическое музыкальное образование по классу фортепиано, закончила консерваторию в штате Нью-Йорк при Purchase College, по классу композиции. Закончила еврейскую религиозную школу. Автор текстов и музыки, Регина Спектор исполняет свои песни, аккомпанируя себе на фортепиано или гитаре.
Трудно определить жанр, стиль и направление творчества Регины Спектор: его называют anti-folk, но в нем есть что-то и от панка, и от инди-рока, и от классической музыки (Регина получила классическое музыкальное образование сначала в России, а затем в Нью-Йорке, у профессора Сони Варгас). Ее сравнивают с Бьорк, с Тори Амос, с Ван Моррисоном. Но она все же совершенно оригинальна. Лирика Регины нарочито интеллигентна, с многочисленными культурными реминисценциями — Эдип, Самсон, Эзра Паунд, Пастернак, а музыка экономна и изящна, как классические японские стихи. Самое главное - то, как она умеет играть голосом.

Да, на beatles.ru народ бывает довольно резок в высказываниях. Впрочем, как я вижу там пока больше всех один какой-то человек возмущается. Подождем.

ELO's Jeff Lynne is back in action with two new albums in October

Fans haven't heard much from Jeff Lynne recently, but the creative force of Electric Light Orchestra is about to make some noise. He'll be releasing two new albums on Oct. 9.

The first is a new solo album, “Long Wave,” described in a press announcement as “a heartfelt and vivid tribute to some of the very songs that originally inspired him.”

On the album, Lynne remakes some pop songs like “Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered,” “Smile” and “Love Is A Many Splendored Many Thing” and a few '60s songs, like “Mercy, Mercy” (the album's first single) plus “Let It Rock” and “So Sad.” It's Lynne dabbling in early memories and rock oldies in his familiar style.

“I call this new album 'Long Wave' because all of the songs I sing on it are the ones heard on long wave radio when I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, England,” Lynne said in a statement.

“These songs take me back to that feeling of freedom in those days and summon up the feeling of first hearing those powerful waves of music coming in on my old crystal set. My dad also had the radio on all the time, so some of these songs have been stuck in my head for 50 years. You can only imagine how great it felt to finally get them out of my head after all these years.”

The second album, called “Mr. Blue Sky – The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra,” is a collection of ELO songs that Lynne has re-recorded at his home studio. Tracks include “Evil Woman, “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Livin’ Thing” and “Mr, Blue Sky,” which Lynne says he's revitalized thanks to improved technology and recording artistry

“There was a big reason I wanted to re-record these ELO songs,” he says. “When I listen to the old versions they don’t sound the way I thought they did when I first wrote and recorded them.

“I wanted to use the experience I’ve gained producing records ever since and have a completely new try at them. I’m not saying the old versions aren’t good; I like them very much. We were doing our best, but experience and technology also play a big a big part, and these new ones sound much more solid and tight.”

The album includes a new bonus track, “The Point Of No Return,” and a special version of “10538 Overture” that’s a nod to ELO’s 40th anniversary.

And there will be more releases in 2013 with “ELO Live!,” plus expanded reissues of the 2001 ELO album “Zoom” and Lynne's first solo album, 1990's “Armchair Theatre,” which features guest appearances by fellow Traveling Wilbury George Harrison plus Del Shannon, Richard Tandy of ELO and Jim Horn.

“I’ve been in love with music since I was probably just five years old. I was mad for music then – and I still am today,” he says.

“It all comes down to what you truly love doing, and what I love doing is overdubbing and making new sounds out of things that are sometimes quite ordinary on their own, but when you put them together, they make something new–or something that sounds new. Just discovering things like that musically is a pleasure.”

Vibes, cowbell - эти инструменты откровенно интригуют. Что же мы услышим? Ну и присутствие на сольнике помимо фортепиано keyboards говорит о том, что не обойдётся без электронных, которые всегда так хороши у Джеффа

Actually I have seen Lynne and Lynn in the same
room together. May 24, 2001, CBS Television City
at the Zoom concert taping after party.

Good point Tony. I am disappointed with the news, but still will buy the
cover album. Having heard few of re-recordings, I will not buy this one.
Seems like the discussion between those who would by anything by Jeff and
those who have some expectations will be going on for a while.
Especially having in perspective "new releases" like: re-mastered Zoom,
re-mastered Armchair Theatre, and well known Zoom Tour Live on CD.

Gina Milo, Chris Critelli to Star in Drury Lane Theatre's Xanadu

Drury Lane Theatre is to present Xanadu, September 6-October 28 at the Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace. Rachel Rockwell will direct and choreograph, with musical direction by Roberta Duchak.

Based on the Universal Pictures movie of the same title and featuring an original hit score by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, Xanadu follows the journey of Greek muse, Kira, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time: a roller disco.

The cast will feature Gina Milo (Clio/Kira) and Chris Critelli (Sonny) as well as Stephanie Binetti (Euterpe), Sean Blake (Terpsicore), Gary Carlson (Thalia), Robin Childress, Jake Klinkhammer, Tammy Mader (Erato), Christine Sherrill (Melponeme), Nancy Voigts (Calliope), and Gene Weygandt (Danny).

The design team will include Kevin Depinet (set design), Jesse Klug (lighting design), Mike Tutaj (projection design), Kurt Alger (costume design), Garth Helm (sound design), and Rick Jarvie (wig design).

Jeff Lynne reunites with former Electric Light Orchestra bandmate Richard Tandy

Even as Jeff Lynne is set to issue new solo versions of his greatest hits with the Electric Light Orchestra, he has reunited with former ELO member Richard Tandy. Videos of the pair performing “Showdown” and “Evil Woman” have been posted to elo.biz.

“Showdown” was originally a No. 12 hit single in the UK in 1973, while “Evil Woman” was went Top 10 both in America and in England in 1975.

It’s unclear whether a full-length recorded reunion with Tandy is in the offing, or if the longtime ELO keyboardist is to be part of Lynne’s planned Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra, though these new videos are posted under a heading that reads “sneak peeks.” Both Mr. Blue Sky and Lynne’s long-awaited second solo album, titled Long Wave, are set for release on October 9, 2012.

Tandy has appeared on every ELO recording, from 1971′s The Electric Light Orchestra through 2001′s Zoom, and served as co-arranger for the band beginning with the 1975 ELO album Eldorado. His work on Mini Moog, mellotron, harmonium, clavinet and piano were key elements in a string of career-making records for Lynne and Co. like 1976′s A New World Record, 1977′s Out of the Blue and 1979′s Discovery — as well as Time in 1981, which saw synthesizers take a more prominent role in the ELO sound.

Tandy was a schoolmate of fellow ELO co-founder Bev Bevan, and played harpsichord on the hit song “Blackberry Way” by the Move — a band that featured several future ELO members. Tandy has also worked with Lynne through his solo career, notably on Armchair Theatre from 1990.
